Powering our planet comes at a deadly cost. To generate heat and electricity for our homes, industrial facilities burn fossil fuels that release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere. These gases contribute to climate change by trapping heat and increasing global temperatures. And their impact matters: as of 2019, the intensity of greenhouse gases’ warming effect on our planet has increased by 45 percent compared to 1990.
